Forward Osmosis (FO) Membranes
Specifications
FTS H2OTM | |
Membrane material | Cellulose Triacetate (CTA) |
Operating conditions | Max. Operating Temperature: 50 °C pH range: 3-7 Maximum Chlorine 2 ppm Minimum Transmembrane Pressure: 5 psi* Max. Inlet Pressure 75 psi Recommended Pre-filtration: 100 um or lower (if particulates are present) |
Packaging and storage | Refrigerated storage is recommended (3-25 °C) Membrane must be kept moist at all times1 Do NOT allow the membrane to freeze2 Do not store in direct sunlight |
Shelf life | Up to 3 years |
1 Maintain higher pressure on the retentate feed side. Control permeate (draw solution) side to have some pressure and flow to keep minimum transmembrane pressure at 5 psi or above.
2 If membrane dries out, it is impossible to re-wet and should be discarded. If membrane freezes, the pore structure may its lose integrity and the membrane should be discarded.
Applications
Forward Osmosis technology is most commonly used for an array of wastewater recycling and water reclamation applications. Areas in which an FO cell may be used include:
Water reclamation from oil and gas exploration
Landfill wastewater
Alternative energy/biogas wastewater
Medical/dental wastewater
Membrane bioreactors
Seawater desalination
Radioactive wastewater
Carpet manufacturing wastewater
Pressure Retarded Osmosis (PRO) to generate electricity
Other uses for Forward Osmosis Cells:
Pretreatment for Reverse Osmosis procedure
Concentrating juices (grape juice to wine, tomato paste)
Pharmaceuticals
Nutraceuticals
